The Service Foundation for People with an Intellectual Disability promotes opportunities for individual living in the community by purchasing and constructing housing for people with special support needs.
The Service Foundation for People with an Intellectual Disability aims to offer different housing options and make it possible for people to make individual choices on how they wish to live.
- We encourage people to live independently and offer opportunities to make it happen.
- We promote opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to live in the community.
- We monitor developments in the field and develop new housing models.
We acquire apartments for young people and adults with intellectual disabilities who wish to live independently. We purchase apartments in ordinary neighbourhoods and lease them out as supported housing. We work together with the person who wants to move to chart his/her housing needs and wishes and find a suitable apartment. The municipality in which the person is domiciled provides the support services needed for living in the apartment.
We develop group housing for people with special support needs. Our housing units are located all over Finland. Each new housing unit is designed with the needs and wishes of the people who are going to live there in mind.
We work in close co-operation with people with intellectual disabilities and their families as well as with local family associations, local authorities and financing bodies.
We receive support from Finland’s Slot Machine Association (RAY) for purchasing apartments. The Housing Finance and Development Centre of Finland (ARA) provides funding for construction of housing units.
